To generate something which is saleable, something which is to hang in someone’s house for years maybe even decades to come is a great honour indeed and drives the quality and determination that is required to produce the finest quality artwork.
The thought processes used to think about the subject, its composition, lighting and colours is to me the same as engineering, both requiring skill, learning, experimentation and experience.
To imagine the finished article and how to get there, to visualise it as something real even tangible without even applying paint to canvas brings out the artisan in me, but to put the first dab of colour on a blank canvas is almost as daunting as the final touch of paint before I can sit back and say ‘it is done’.
